The Italian Gateway to the Matterhorn
The Skiing area
Chalet Snøstorm sits at the foot of one of the greatest ski areas in the world. Valtournenche is part of the Cervinia–Zermatt ski domain — the Matterhorn Ski Paradise — which spans the Italian–Swiss border and offers skiing at altitudes up to 3,883 metres. With over 360km of marked runs and access to year-round glacier skiing, it is consistently ranked among the highest and most snowsure ski areas in the Alps. From the chalet, the nearest piste is a 300-metre walk. The Valtournenche–Salette gondola gives access to the full Cervinia ski area. From there, the Plateau Rosa cable car crosses the border into Zermatt — reachable in under an hour from the chalet door.

The Village
Valtournenche itself is an authentically Italian Alpine village — unhurried, charming, and refreshingly uncommercialized compared to the larger resorts up the valley. The village centre is a 15-minute walk downhill through narrow pathways between traditional chalets and old stone houses, or a 5-minute drive. In the village you will find a fabulous pasticceria for fresh croissants and bread each morning, an excellent butcher, the most charming wine & deli store with an amazing local selection, local restaurants, bars, and ski shops.
For a more refined dinner or a big lunch the renowned Foyer des Guides mountain restaurant is just 700 metres from the chalet — one of the finest tables on the Italian side of the ski area.
Breuil-Cervinia — the main resort at the top of the valley — is 9km away, a 15-minute drive, with its broader selection of shops, hotels, restaurants, and après-ski.

Beyond the Slopes
The Cervinia–Zermatt area offers far more than piste skiing. On the mountain: guided off-piste skiing, heli-skiing, snowshoeing, and sledging. The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing — a spectacular cable car journey between Italy and Switzerland at nearly 4,000 metres — is an experience in itself, skis optional.
Away from the snow: paragliding over the Aosta Valley, hot air balloon flights, canyoning, and in summer, world-class trekking and e-biking through some of Italy's most dramatic mountain scenery. The Aosta Valley is also one of Italy's richest historical regions — Roman ruins, medieval castles, and outstanding local wines and cheeses. We can arrange guided excursions, wine and cheese tastings, and day trips to Aosta on request.
